London Park Life
Home to dozens of parks comprising thousands of hectares of lush greenery, London is one of the world's premier destinations for green spaces offering all-natural fun. From family days to couples-only evenings and student excursions, London parks are a must-do. Take your pick – there’s truly something for everyone in London’s parks.
St James’s Park
Widely regarded as the most romantic park in London, St James’s Park is an ideal place for couples, and especially foreign students, to stroll round together and enjoy the magnificent view of Buckingham Palace. Coaches are permitted in St James’s, making it the perfect locale for a carriage ride. The carefully manicured gardens provide a lovely backdrop for cool, moonlit evenings.
Richmond Park
The largest (and some would say the most beautiful)
Royal Park in London features 2,500 gorgeous pastoral acres and 650 deer in residence. Richmond Park is a nature lover’s paradise, complete with seemingly endless foliage and wildlife. Foreign students will love the peace and quiet of Richmond after a hectic day of classes. It’s a great place to relax and take a walk or go fishing, cycling or horse riding.
Crystal Palace Park
The family-friendly jewel of
London parks, Crystal Palace, is a wonderland of fun and excitement. Children and adults alike will enjoy the farmyard, boating lake, maze and museum (which has free admission), as they stroll through the grounds. Crystal Palace is also an optimal environment for foreign students looking to take a break from the books – the park is home to the National Sports Centre and hosts outdoor concerts throughout the summer.
The Regent’s Park
Lace up your trainers and trot on over to the Regent’s Park. Home to the largest outdoor sports area in central London, the Regent’s Park boasts a boating lake, exercise area, tennis centre, open-air theatre, a zoo and the Hub – a large indoor fitness facility with exercise studios, showers and a cafe. Arguably, it is London’s most ‘active’ park. For students of everything from higher mathematics to
Chinese courses London offers a great outdoor escape and a good work-out at the Regent’s Park.
Battersea Park
The active and friendly atmosphere at Battersea Park is perfect for getting a little exercise and a lot of fresh air. The annual fireworks show, a favourite with local and foreign students alike, is a can’t-miss event. Nearby eateries and art galleries provide just a few of Battersea’s leisurely diversions – all excellent choices for anyone interested in whiling away an afternoon at the park.
London has long been a world-class destination for everything from sightseeing and nightlife to shopping and historical excursions. In addition to being home to many an
English language school London is no slouch when it comes to parks and recreation. Whether you’re looking for a fun and action-packed day out with the kids, a romantic evening for two, a quiet solo walk, or the chance to meet other foreign students, the parks of London are sure to impress.
